i haven’t had anyone look at me like that in a long time
the way they looked at me when i was little
made me feel like i was from some other planet
because in their eyes i made absolutely no sense
and in mine we were definitely from two different places

i could tell somehow that you would never know me
and i would never know you
you looked at me the same way they did
you destroyed part of me that day
and took away something that i loved dearly

now you fly away, back to the safety of your nest
it’s built of nothing and won’t last through the windy days
you will never feel safe anywhere you go
and without a doubt you will look back to this planet
never knowing what you really could have been
